It's wild. I have coached hockey, figure skating and softball and the number one thing that we tell people is that PRACTICE and repetition are the only way to train muscle memory. Here we have a poll on the number of nights that people bowl and the largest percentage of people only bowl twice a week. Yet, like golf, another completely mucle memory sport, people like to get all excited about "this doesn't work" and "that didn't help", "I think I need a new ball, shoe, glove, wrist guard and on and on....
I am starting to realise that if I am not going to dedicate 3-5 nights of bowling a week to the sport, then I am totally not allowed to make myself feel bad for how I bowl. If I have a great game, great, if I have a crap game, no problem because the harder I try to find things to blame my bowling on, the more I am slapped in the face with the reality that the only way to truely improve my game is to practice, practice, practice.
From now on, I am just going to roll the ball and have fun...
Back in HS and college, I used to bowl a lot. In HS, I would bowl probably 4 days a week. In college, it was 7 days a week. Anywhere from 50-100 games a week. Now, I am at 1 day a week for 3 games. Wife and kids will do that to you. I look at it this way. I am still a 210+ bowler bowling once a week. I can't complain.
January-August I was bowling 4-5x a week M-F and most of those outings I was bowling 5+ games quite often 15+ games. I was totally addicted I couldnt get enough - then life got in the way and I cut way back.
I currently bowl Tues league, Wed 2 leagues, and Fri in 2 leagues.
Sometimes, I think this is a problem, because I have developed some problems in my release, of late. And, when I bowl a lot, I repeat the problem, committing it to memory.
I'm in 1 league and I usually try to bowl at least 1 other day for practice but 2 practice sessions is what I try for. I was bowling once a week with my daughter but now that she's made her H.S. bowling team, she practices with them while I watch - The Proud Father.
Just one day a week for me, I'm out of work and can't afford to be in a league right now and bowl more than once. I'd bowl more if I were working. I bowl 4 games in that one day.
I am in construction which is very slow right now. so when I am not working, I practice four day's a week . when I am working, it's only once per week. I am not in a league.
